While studying Sociology at the University of Michigan, Ms. Janssens became passionate about social justice and using education as a force for change. Following her college graduation, she began teaching in Detroit. There, she further fueled her passion for justice. Eventually, after 24 years as a Michigander, Ms. Janssens (and her cat) moved to Los Angeles to continue her teaching journey in fourth grade at Equitas. In this role, Ms. Janssens became enthusiastic about supporting scholars in the middle grades to develop as thoughtful, engaged, and motivated young adults. Belief in her scholars propelled Ms. Janssens in her teaching and propels her now in her role as school director. In addition to spending time with Equitas scholars, Ms. Janssens enjoys reading, vegan baking, and cuddling her cat, Baxter. She looks forward to partnering with families and community members to support Equitas scholars in growing as socially conscious and critical thinkers. She is excited to see every EQ4 scholar develop into an inspiring young adult!
